Our Process For New Lawn Installations

Initial Consultation

We begin by assessing your garden and needs to match you with the perfect variety for your lifestyle and budget. From salt-tolerant options for coastal living to lawns that stand up to kids and pets, we’ve got you covered.

We also gauge your area’s sun and shade conditions in order to choose the right turf variety. Finally, precise measurements are taken to provide an accurate quote that includes top-quality local turf and materials and installation costs.

Removal of Old Lawn

If replacing old grass with new turf, it’s crucial to carefully remove the old lawn.

After removal, we ensure all debris is removed from the soil area and the soil surface is leveled to ensure that the new turf is properly planted, creating an ideal foundation for your roll-on lawn.

Reticulation

Retic installation for your lawn ensures that the turf and underlying soil stay well-hydrated, a key factor for the lawn’s long-term health and maintaining a lush green colour.

Without a retic system, the scorching Perth summers could cause your lush green lawn to dry out.

If you have a retic system already, we will check it and can do basic repairs if needed.

If you do not have a retic system in place for your lawn, you will need to have this installed by a reticulation company first.

Soil Improvement

Next, we concentrate on soil preparation by incorporating a soil improver. The improver not only enhances the soil structure, making it favorable for grass growth but, coupled with a slow-release organic fertiliser, also provides essential nutrients vital for turf establishment.

Additionally, we integrate a soil wetting agent, which is especially beneficial in Perth’s sandy soil, significantly increasing the soil’s water-holding capacity and ensuring optimal moisture levels.

In cases where your soil quality is poor, we may recommend adding new soil, either a lawn mix soil or black topsoil. While this can be an expensive addition, however, the long-term growth and water savings outweigh the initial expense.

Laying the Turf

With the soil preparation complete, our team expertly lays turf rolls. We meticulously cut turf to fit around sprinkler heads and to fit any curves and edges, guaranteeing an even fin

Applying Fertiliser

After the grass is laid, we apply a lawn starter organic fertiliser. This helps to provide essential nutrients that will feed the grass over time, promoting healthy growth.

Watering and After Care Advice

Finally, we ensure the completed lawn surface is amply watered and provide lawn care tips on nurturing it during the vital initial weeks for the lawn’s establishment. This encompasses guidance on watering and mowing to optimise the roll-on turf’s growth and health.

Benefits of Grass

Cooling Effect

In Perth’s hot summers, a beautiful lawn acts like a natural air conditioner. New turf absorbs sunlight and releases moisture, making your outdoor space more inviting while potentially lowering indoor cooling costs.

Erosion Control

New lawn installations in Perth offer valuable erosion control, particularly important given the region’s sandy soil. This widely proven practice helps stabilise the ground, making it less vulnerable to rain and wind, especially on sloped properties or areas prone to heavy rainfall.

Recreation

A new lawn installation creates an inviting space for all sorts of fun activities. Whether you’re into backyard games or simply lounging outdoors, new lawn planting sets the stage for countless hours of enjoyment.

Enhanced Property Value

Besides the practical benefits, the addition of a lawn significantly enhances property value and the aesthetic appeal of a home. A lush, well-maintained lawn is often one of the first things people notice when they see a property.

Lawn After Care

Limit Foot Traffic

In the early stages of your lawn’s growth, it’s crucial to limit foot traffic to allow the grass to establish a healthy root system.

Watering

After new lawn installations, it’s vital to ensure rapid root development by keeping the soil beneath your turf moist with light, frequent watering. Aim for about 20 minutes per day for the first 3 to 4 weeks.

It’s important to adhere to the Perth water restrictions, so you will need to apply to the Water Corp for a new lawn water exemption. Alternatively, you can hand water or use a timed sprinkler via your hose (which is technically hand watering).
Be cautious to avoid overwatering, as it can hinder roots from growing deep into the soil. Ensure that each area of your new turf is getting even coverage of water.

When you notice the grass starts to grow and the root system strengthens (you can tell this as the you won’t be able to lift the rolls), it’s time to slowly cut back on the frequency of watering. This helps the roots dig deeper into the soil in search of moisture, a key factor for long-term health and drought resistance of the lawn.

Mowing

Mowing is an indispensable aspect of aftercare, but timing is critical. Wait until your grass has grown sufficiently and the roots are well-established. Mow your instant lawn lightly, don’t cut more than one-third of the leaf blade off. This ensures that the grass still has enough surface area to perform photosynthesis effectively.

Fertilising

As a crucial part of our new lawn installation services, we begin your roll-on lawn journey with an initial application of our recommended lawn fertiliser. After that, it’s up to you to keep feeding your lawn with a good lawn fertiliser.

The type of complete fertiliser we recommend will vary depending on the specific lawn variety we installed for you. For example, fertilisers with added weed killer should not be used on buffalo grass., but palmetto premium lawn fertiliser is a good option.
The frequency of fertilisation will also depend on your turf variety.

Generally, we recommend applications during the growing season and a slow release fertiliser during dormant periods to keep your lawn lush and green.

Keep in mind if you mow your lawn, it’s best to wait a week before applying to minimise stress on your grass.

Monitoring for Weeds and Pests

Stay vigilant in checking your lawn for any signs of weeds and pests. Catching these issues early is key to maintaining a weed-free lawn and preserving its overall health and beauty.
